Yes, I know this has been out for some time. However, this post got saved as a draft instead of published, probably due to the janky touchpad on my laptop.
2009 TBS MLB Open- Bon Jovi from Turner Sports on Vimeo.
I’ve already weighed in on the song itself in earlier posts, so I won’t get back into it. ‘We Weren’t Born to Follow’ does make a good song for a baseball ad, though. Actually, that’s probably the one thing that this song is really ideal for–it’s a perfect sports song, even more so than ‘I Love This Town’. ‘I Love This Town’ doesn’t capture the competitive spirit of sports. ‘We Got It Goin’ On’ was a bit better for a sports anthem, but all told, still not as good as ‘We Weren’t Born to Follow’. I think we may be hearing this one in stadiums for a long time to come.
As for the commercial itself, I think Jon made a mistake changing his hair after the video for ‘Stand By Me’. Don’t get me wrong, the highlights do make a big difference in the look–it’s much better than that awful flat artificial brown that he had for so long. But for some reason he can’t seem to let it grow out, and I don’t get it. Longer hair is so much more flattering to his face.
