Random Song: Disease

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Artist: Matchbox Twenty
Album: More Than You Think You Are

I’ve actually had this album since it was released. Back then, I went through a phase where this was my favorite album ever. (Obviously, I had yet to encounter Richie Sambora’s solo work.) I played it all the time for a couple of years after I first got it, but after that, I stuck it on the shelf and never went back to it.

The things that happen while I’m out for dinner…

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

I know, there was no post yesterday.  I forgot that I was supposed to go out last night until it was too late to get a post ready.   (Incidentally, the casino that we went to did not impress me.  It would have probably been more impressive had I not already been to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Foxwoods.  They didn’t even have any of the slot machines where you can win a car, and the band in the lounge was doing a bad job on pretty much every cover song that they tried to do.   On the other hand, the grub was really good, we actually won some money, and it was a Monday night so they can be forgiven for the act in the lounge. )

Anyway, back on topic…

Commentary: Australian Interview with Jon

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Yeah, I’m coming to this a couple of days late, but I had already gotten the idea for the post about ‘Secret Dreams’, and I wanted to finish it out before I lost my inspiration.  For some reason, that particular song just spoke to me on Wednesday, and I needed to get it written up.

So, anyway, back to today’s topic.   Jon did an interview with the Australian Today Show.  It’s actually pretty good–he’s smiling, and he seems to be happy to do the interview.  (Love his smile.  Can’t resist it.)  Most of it’s not news, but there were a few interesting bits and pieces, plus the eye candy.

Random Song: Secret Dreams

Artist: Bon Jovi
Album: 7800º Fahrenheit

Sure, you could dismiss the songs on 7800º Fahrenheit as being total 80′s cheese.  You might even be right.  But that would be doing a disservice to the music that’s on this album, including this song.

‘What Do You Got’ Video Review

Monday, September 20th, 2010

The video for ‘What Do You Got’ is up on BonJovi.com now.

I actually like this one better than the last couple of videos that Bon Jovi has put out.   It’s a definite improvement over the last major video that the band did; the video for ‘Superman Tonight’ really just didn’t work for me.  I mean, I understand the point that Jon was trying to make, but I thought that it just kind of clashed with the song itself.

This time out, the video stayed on-topic and worked together with the song, and I think the effect was much better.

Review: ‘What Do You Got’ Live

Friday, September 17th, 2010

There’s a video of Bon Jovi performing ‘What Do You Got’ live from the show in New York yesterday on the P.C. Richard & Son blog.   I still think that the song is a reasonably good effort on the part of the band, and it plays well live.  There’s a photo gallery available from the P.C. Richard & Son Theater site as well that has some good shots of the band as well.

Desmond Child interview

Monday, September 13th, 2010

I found an interview with Desmond Child at BlackBook.com. It’s got a little bit of information on how he came to write for Bon Jovi in it, and it’s kind of neat to read an interview with him for once.

There isn’t a ton of Jovi-specific information in it. But I personally didn’t know that they were put in contact with Child by Kiss, so I thought that was interesting. (I rather suspect that everyone else already knew that, and I’m just late to the party, as usual.)

Most of the time, when it comes to the songwriting on the albums, we just get Jon’s perspective on things. So I rather like getting to read about Desmond Child’s point of view on things.

Go give it a read. It’s worth it.

Random Song: The Last In Line

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Artist: Dio
Album: The Last In Line

There are many things that made Ronnie James Dio such a legend, but one of the most prominent was his voice. That man had a voice that could make anyone and everyone sit up and take notice. It certainly got my attention; Dio was one of the first heavy metal artists that I discovered, and he played a large role in introducing me to the genre.

Review: ‘Garageland’ Live

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

The latest video posted on the official site is a performance of ‘Garageland’.

I didn’t really have any preformed opinions of this song. For some reason, this song never really stood out enough from the rest of the tracks on the box set for me to really take notice of it. (A quick check of the play counts on Windows Media Player reveals a total play count of 2 for this particular track.)
