Always (Live from London DVD)

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

‘Always’ was never a particular favorite of mine.  Yes, it’s a good ballad, and Jon does a great job on it, but there were always songs that I liked better in the Bon Jovi catalog.  There are so many of their other songs that have so much more substance to them.

Keep the Faith (Live from London DVD)

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Interestingly enough, for a song that’s usually all about the bass, it’s Richie’s performance that stands out to me.  Sure, Jon does and admirable pouty-face during the bridge, and Hugh holds up his end of the song, but it’s Richie’s solo that steals the spotlight here.

You Give Love a Bad Name (Live from London DVD)

This particular song doesn’t strike me as being as much of a standout performance as the rendition of Prayer right before it.

Livin’ on a Prayer (Live from London DVD)

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

All right, now we’re finally into the meat of the Live from London  DVD.  I’m used to Prayer being used as an encore rather than an opener, but that actually works well.  Bon Jovi shows need a high-energy opener–that one song can set the tone for the entire show, and this song is a great one for this application.

Up Next…

Monday, October 10th, 2011

I figure that the next big feature on the blog should be another review–this time, though, I figure that rather than continuing on with 7800° Fahrenheit, I might do a concert DVD for the next one.

Personally, I’m debating between doing the review on Live from London or  Live at Madison Square Garden.   If anybody has one that they particularly want to read, just leave a comment on this post.

I’ll probably be starting the next review next Monday.

The ten songs that made me like music

Monday, September 26th, 2011

As you may know, I grew up during the heyday of grunge, but that style of music never spoke to me at all.  (Actually, I was so utterly alienated by grunge that I spent years unable to understand what it was that made people hardcore fans of any band.)  I picked up an album here and there over the years as a song caught my fancy, but it wasn’t until I bought that copy of Cross Road that everything started to come together for me to really become a fan of rock music.

Bon Jovi Lisbon Stream Review

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

I almost missed this; I hadn’t been paying attention to the official site very much, and I cancelled my original plans for tonight because I was tired when I left work.  (If I hadn’t done that, I’d have been miles from my computer.)
