Review: Jon Bon Jovi on Delilah

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Now, I don’t usually listen to Delilah.  The music on her show isn’t really my style.   However, a little Jon Bon Jovi can go a long way.  (That man even got me to watch American Idol, three times at that, and I really don’t like American Idol.)

Commentary: Australian Interview with Jon

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Yeah, I’m coming to this a couple of days late, but I had already gotten the idea for the post about ‘Secret Dreams’, and I wanted to finish it out before I lost my inspiration.  For some reason, that particular song just spoke to me on Wednesday, and I needed to get it written up.

So, anyway, back to today’s topic.   Jon did an interview with the Australian Today Show.  It’s actually pretty good–he’s smiling, and he seems to be happy to do the interview.  (Love his smile.  Can’t resist it.)  Most of it’s not news, but there were a few interesting bits and pieces, plus the eye candy.

Desmond Child interview

Monday, September 13th, 2010

I found an interview with Desmond Child at BlackBook.com. It’s got a little bit of information on how he came to write for Bon Jovi in it, and it’s kind of neat to read an interview with him for once.

There isn’t a ton of Jovi-specific information in it. But I personally didn’t know that they were put in contact with Child by Kiss, so I thought that was interesting. (I rather suspect that everyone else already knew that, and I’m just late to the party, as usual.)

Most of the time, when it comes to the songwriting on the albums, we just get Jon’s perspective on things. So I rather like getting to read about Desmond Child’s point of view on things.

Go give it a read. It’s worth it.

Reader’s Digest Jon Bon Jovi interview

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I ran across a Reader’s Digest interview with Jon today. Decent article, all told, though there’s not much here that won’t be very familiar to any real fan. And the stock photo that they pulled for the article (a Bounce promo) is hilariously outdated.

What I did find interesting is the question about the sound on The Circle. I don’t get Jon’s answer; the production on this album is anything but simpler. As a matter of fact, it’s overcomplicated and overproduced, as far as I’m concerned, but I’ve complained about that before, when I reviewed the album.

Nov. 4 Today Show Commentary

Friday, November 6th, 2009

My geriatric VCR seems to be more interested in eating tapes than recording on them, so I’ve had some trouble picking up all of the current band appearances in a timely manner. Thankfully, these days everything shows up on the Internet sooner or later, so I’ve just be catching up slowly on the Net. (That is, after I managed to get the mangled tape out of the VCR.)

Most of the information in this item isn’t new, at least not for us fans. At least NBC does seem to be promoting the fact that they will be airing a lot of Bon Jovi concert over the next month.

The discussion of When We Were Beautiful didn’t seem to be anything that would encourage non-fans to watch the movie, which is probably too bad. It was nice to see that Matt Lauer was directing the discussion toward more band members than just Jon. In a lot of interviews, Jon does all the talking while the rest of the band sits around and looks decorative. I think that’s more of an indicator of the interviewer’s skills than anything else. Jon is used to acting as the spokesman for the band, so it’s natural for him to step in and handle undirected questions. However, from a fan’s perspective, it’s nice to see Dave and Tico get to talk. And Dave did hit it spot on about the power of Bon Jovi being in their live show.

Now I just have to decide if I’m going to try to make it up to Rockefeller Plaza for their appearance. The plaza is always swamped when they have Bon Jovi in, and it will most likely be really cold up there. Plus, I have to work the day before Thanksgiving, so I would have to take a vacation day to make it up there. That being said, it would be an experience, and it would be cool to be able to say that I did it.
